Right from my childhood, I was interested in Telugu movies more than anything else. It is these movies that made me laugh, cry, feel good/bad about life and experience many other emotions. It is these movies that gave me sense of relief from any tension and other distractions. The big question is - What is the magic in these movies that attracts millions of viewers every day? What is the fabric that brings out so many emotions from me and everyone?
According to me, the answer lies within ourselves. What we see on the big screen is our own dreams captured beautifully on a 70 mm screen. It is those heroic stunts that we wanted to perform on the villains of the society. It is with that beautiful heroine/hero of our life we wanted to spend time in our daily life. It actually gives us a platform to personify the various images we have in our minds with the characters we see in the movies. Be it a doting father, lovely heroine, ferocious villain or a humorous comedian - we can map these characters to the real life persons we meet every day. That is why, those who watch can easily get connected and feel the emotions and talk about the movie even after going home and many days later.
But in the recent years, Telugu cinema has grown in leaps and bounds. Be it the sensational sci-fi graphical extravaganza "Eega" or the family oriented multi-starrer "Seethamma Vaakitlo Sirimalle Chettu", Telugu cinema is experiencing new heights. Three of the recent releases in Telugu cinema had crossed the collection of 70 crores showing the might of the film. Despite having a meagre watching population of 8-9 crores, these collections show the power of the movies and the market that can be garnered across the world.
In my next blog, I would be writing about the ace directors of this film industry who are challenging the written rules and writing their own history!
